MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 2
San Francisco Giants vs. Boston Red Sox
First Pitch – 1:35 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, Massachusetts
Broadcast – NESN
In a thin slate of games, one of the NRFI spots I like is in Boston. Some of that is my faith in Josh Winckowski, who it seems is being stretched out by Boston. In his first two starts, he went a combined 6.1 innings and allowed just one earned run in that span. That includes a scoreless outing against the Cubs, who are in the top ten of runs scored in the majors. Now he’ll get the Giants, who are one of the worst in the majors at scoring in the first inning – 28th at 0.29 per game.
The Red Sox offense has been good, but I’m going to trust Kyle Harrison a bit here. After being touched up every time out this season, he settled in for his last outing. Not only did his stuff look better, but he got solid results. He threw 6.0 innings and only allowed five hits, and struck out seven.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 2: No (-110)
Washington Nationals vs. Texas Rangers
First Pitch – 2:35 pm EST
Globe Life Field – Arlington, Texas
Broadcast – MLB TV
The usually potent offense of Texas has actually been mild this year. They’re middle of the road when it comes to runs per game, whereas they were third in MLB last year. In addition to being a little lower in their offense, I also really liked what I’ve seen from Mitchell Parker. In three starts, Parker has maintained a 1.69 ERA and has kept his WHIP down to 0.94. As a result, I like the NRFI on this side.
The other side is far easier to get behind. Washington is the worst team in the majors at scoring in the first inning. They have scored just 0.27 runs per game in the first inning. They’re also in the bottom third of the league in runs scored with less than four per game. Having Nathan Eovaldi standing across from them shouldn’t help matters at all.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 2: No (-125)
