Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – April 29

Max Fried – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts

Max Fried came out like a man possessed last game, completing just the second Maddux we’ve seen this season. He also hit his season high on strikeouts with six, which is a great sign that he’s finding his rhythym this season. That big game came against a tough Marlins lineup, who are one of the ten best teams at limiting strikeouts. Now Fried will get the Mariners, who are striking out 10.29 times per game – dead last in the MLB – and who struck out 15 times last game.

Nick Lodolo – Lower than 16.5 Pitching Outs

Lodolo has been great since his late debut to the season. However, that late debut has made it such that the Reds are a little hesitant in letting him get deep into a game. He’s yet to make it to 100 pitches this year and was pulled in a good start at 80 pitches. Now he’ll face the Padres, who are walking 3.42 times a game and tend to see a lot of pitches in doing so. I expect that we see another short outing for Lodolo here.

Jake Irvin – Higher than 17.5 Pitching Outs

Maybe this isn’t the name you expected to see here, but the Nationals have really been trusting him to get late into games. While he had a short outing against the Dodgers last time, he’s largely been going over this number. In fact, on April 17th, he recorded 18 outs against those same Dodgers. Having gotten out of the sixth inning in three of his last four starts, I like his chances against the Marlins here.
