NBA First FG Props – April 25
Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Orlando Magic
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
Kia Center – Orlando, Florida
Broadcast – NBA TV
This is an example of if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. The Cavaliers have been dominant on the tip all year with Jarrett Allen winning 74.7% of his tips. The Magics have had a mixed bag of tip guys. Whether it’s Goga Bitadze, Wendell Carter Jr., or Jonathan Isaac, none of them can hang with Allen. When you add in that the Cavaliers have won each of the two tips in this series and scored first both times, it would be silly to buck that trend.
The trend has continued just past the team when scoring first. It’s largely been guard work for the Cavaliers with Max Strus and Donovan Mitchell getting the first two scores. While he got the last one, Mitchell is again my play for this one. They seem to like to lean that way early and he’s the one getting the most looks.

Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Lakers

The lead in this one isn’t large by any stretch, but both of the major indicators favor the Nuggets. Their first bucket success rate is 6.0% higher than the Lakers. Nikola Jokic also has won 5.4% more tips than Anthony Davis. Numbers this close tend to be ones I don’t chance all that often, but when the slate of games is this short, you have to work with the tiny advantages you can find.
Closing the season, the aforementioned Nikola Jokic was hot on the first bucket. He got the last one on the regular season and then opened the playoffs with the first score as well. He had two others in the last month of the season. Jokic also has the last two against the Lakers in the regular season. That’s enough for me to get behind the big guy here.
