NBA First FG Props – April 23
Orlando Magic vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
Target Center – Minneapolis, Minnesota
Broadcast – TNT
Before these two squared off in game one of this series, they had already faced each other twice in April during the regular season. In both of those games, Jusuf Nurkic won the tip and the Suns got the first bucket. Perhaps that’s not super surprising, given Nurkic has a 22.3% better tip win percentage than Rudy Gobert. The Suns won the tip again in game one but faltered on the first bucket. Given the past results, I would be surprised to see that happen two games in a row – so we’ll lean to Phoenix players here.
In the two games they scored first on the Timberwolves, Devin Booker and Kevin Durant were the men doing the dirty work. That is also not surprising, given that the two combined for 41.0% of the Suns’ first field goals on the year. Either is a reasonable play here, but given that Devin Booker is giving us a bit better value on the line, we’ll go with him.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Clippers

Dallas is another team that got a first possession as predicted in game one but just didn’t get the first field goal to fall. In fact, they got very little to fall for the entire first half. I expect their shooting to be quite a bit better in this game, and I expect them to get the first possession again. That’s because Ivica Zubac will be on the tip for the Clippers. As one of the worst tip guys in the league this year – just a 27.5% win rate – he’s an auto-fade for me.
It’s a little chalky, but I love Luka Doncic in this one. He not only is the usual guy to score first for the Mavericks, but he’ll likely have something to prove in this game. With as bad as Dallas’ offense looked in game one, he’s going to look to take over early and often in this one.
