Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – April 21

Josh Naylor – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

Josh Naylor is hot right now with home runs in back to back games. He’s also riding an eight-game hit streak. While I like him for all of those reasons, the matchup today with Ross Stripling is where I’m finding most of my confidence. In six head-to-head matchups, Naylor has five hits off of Stripling with two of them being for extra bases (a double and a homer). He’s seeing the ball well right now anyways, so to get a pitcher who he also likes is a huge gift.

Anthony Rizzo – Higher than 0.5 Total Bases

Rizzo isn’t blowing anybody away with his batting average at the moment. Hitting just .232 isn’t putting him on an All-Star team anytime soon. However, he’s looked better the last four games. He’s cut down his strikouts – going without one in three of those games. He also has a hit in two of his last three games. To add to it, he also has a great pitching matchup. He’s faced Aaron Civale ten times in his career and has five hits and a walk. Furthermore, he’s slugging 1.200 against him.

Casey Mize – Higher than 5.0 Strikeouts

Mize saw a nice uptick in his strikeouts last time out against the Rangers. After nabbing just two and four, respectively, in his first two starts, he fanned six over six innings against Texas. Now he has the pleasure of facing the Twins, who rank dead last in the league in terms of strikeouts. They’re striking out 10.16 times per game, which should give Mize plenty of chance to beat this projection.
