Underdog Fantasy UFC 300 Daily Pick ‘Em Plays

Alex Pereira – Higher than 0.5 Finishes

Let’s kick things off in the main event, which will be a battle for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. I expect the current champion (and former middleweight champ), Alex Pereira, to beat former champion Jamahal Hill.

Pereira is the superior striker in pretty much every MMA matchup, Hill being no exception. The issue here is that Hill seems willing to enter into a striking battle with Pereira, which won’t go well for him. Three of Pereira’s last four wins have come via T/KO – Saturday, it’ll be four out of five.

Justin Gaethje – Higher than 119.5 Significant Strikes

The early leader for Saturday’s Fight of the Night (Fight of the Year?) has to be the Justin Gaethje vs Max Holloway fight for the pretend “BMF Title”. Both guys are fan favorites and are never in a dull fight.

Since this is for a fake belt, the UFC is giving the two combatants five rounds to settle this one. And I expect it to last the full 25 minutes, as both guys are extremely durable with granite chins. If Gaethje keeps up his 7.35 strikes landed per minute pace, he’ll easily clear this 119.5 significant strikes barrier. And I don’t see any reason why he won’t keep going balls to the wall, as per usual.

Aljamain Sterling – Lower than 2.0 Takedowns

Saturday will mark former bantamweight king Aljamain Sterling’s first foray into the UFC’s featherweight division. And he’s being given a stiff test right out of the gate in Calvin Kattar.

I’m starting to question my wisdom in picking Sterling to win this fight, considering I expect him to land lower than two takedowns on Kattar. Grappling is where Sterling does his best work, but Kattar is impossible to get down to the mat. He’s stayed on his feet for six straight fights and stuffs 91% of the takedown attempts against him.
