MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 12
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
Chase Field – Phoenix, Arizona
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Diamondbacks are averaging 1.85 runs per game in the first inning. The Cardinals are averaging just 0.23. So if we’re looking at an NRFI here, we really only have to worry about one team scoring in the first.
While the Diamondbacks’ bats have been hot early and often, Steven Matz takes the hill for the Cardinals. He’s been great so far for them on the short season. He shut out the Dodgers for five straight innings before falling apart a bit in the 6th. Then he shut out the Marlins for five before being pulled.
I like his early game dominace to continue here and the Cardinals offense to keep up its incompetence.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 12: No (+110)
Washington Nationals vs. Oakland Athletics
First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
Oakland Coliseum – Oakland, California
Broadcast – MLB TV
Speaking of teams with little success in the first, how about these Nationals? Perhaps it’s a misnomer to say ‘little success’ for them as they have literally not scored in the first inning on this season. Paul Blackburn also hasn’t allowed a run this season, which means we only really have to consider the home half for a NRFI.
Oakland’s offense has been pretty bad this year. They’ve scored just 3.0 runs per game and are 28th in the league. Perhaps the arm of Jake Irvin has not been great on the year, but this is more of a fade of Oakland than anything else.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 12: No (-125)
