MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 11
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Cincinnati Reds
First Pitch – 1:10 pm EST
Great American Ball Park – Cincinnati, Ohio
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Reds’ bats being the first end of this equation has to already help you to lean to the NRFI. They’ve scored just once all year in the first inning (or in 8.33% of their games if you rather). They’ll face off against formidable Brewers starter Freddy Peralta. While Peralta hasn’t been flawless in his first couple of starts, his 3.09 ERA should hold up for an inning.
On the other side, can you trust the Reds pitching to get through the first here? The Brewers are scoring in just under a third of their first innings played, which does put them in the upper part of the league in terms of success rate. However, I do trust their starter, Nick Martinez – at least for an inning.
He’s come out looking sharp in both of his starts before getting tagged the second time through the order. He threw three scoreless against the Mets and two scoreless against the Nationals. Just need one to make this a winner here.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 11: No (-130)
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Philadelphia Phillies
First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
Citizens Bank Park – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Broadcast – MLB TV
I might be being a touch bold here, going with the NRFI with the Phillies. Philadelphia is averaging 0.75 runs in the first inning this year. However, consider me a Jared Jones believer. His stuff has looked electric in the games that he’s thrown. He’s struck out 17 batters in 11.2 innings, and the Phillies are 20th in the majors in strikeouts per game (9.0). I think he should get some early swings and misses and get them over into the second inning.
The Pirates are a little less of a concern on the hitting side. Despite being in the top five in the league when it comes to runs scored, they are 29th in the league in YRFI percentage. They’ve scored just once in the first inning all year. Ranger Suarez is 1-for-2 in keeping opponents off the board early, but the failure was against the Braves, which I think can be excused.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 11: No (-105)
