NBA First FG Props – April 10
Memphis Grizzlies vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST

If you just look at the team-wide, season-long data, the tipoff numbers look very similar. The Cavaliers are 2nd in the NBA and the Grizzlies come in at 4th. However, that’s not a good representation of where the teams currently are. Trey Jemison is currently tipping for the Grizzlies, and he’s 1-for-8 on the season. Compare that to Jarrett Allen, who has only lost 19 of the 74 tips he’s taken, and it’s obvious who is starting with the ball.
Although winning the tip doesn’t gaurantee a first bucket, 64.5% of the tip winners are getting the first score. The Cavaliers are also a top 5 team in the Association at converting their chances.
The Cavaliers big men have been busy lately on the first bucket. However, Max Strus has been occasionally firing off from deep to kick off the game. He hasn’t for two games in a row, but did the game prior. It’s about time for him to let it fly again.

Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Clippers

If you’ve been following this segment over the course of the year, you know the Clippers are a team to fade. They’re 29th in first field goal success rate and dead last in tipoff win percentage. Ivica Zubac has been one of the very worst in the NBA on the tip this year.
On the other side, the Suns are 3rd in tip percentage with Jusuf Nurkic holding down the fort. They’re also a top ten team on the first bucket success. So while we’d tail any team against the Clippers, this is a particularly good one to do so with.
Devin Booker has been the guy as of late for the Suns. In the last two weeks, Booker has half of the Suns’ first buckets (three of six successes). I like his chances to keep that trend rolling.
