MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 9
Houston Astros vs. Kansas City Royals
First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Kauffman Stadium – Kansas City, Missouri
Broadcast – MLB TV
This may be one of the chalkier plays for the NRFI because of this pitching matchup. Cristian Javier has not allowed a run in any of the 11.0 innings he’s pitched this year. With Kansas City only averaging 4.40 runs per game, they’re unlikely to be the first team to do damage against him in the first inning.
Cole Ragans is another one who has good surface stats. While he has given up a first inning run this year, he has only allowed two runs over 12.1 innings so far this year. Houston is one of the potent offenses in the first inning and beyond, but I like Ragans’ chances to keep them at bay.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 9: No (-125)
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Colorado Rockies
First Pitch – 8:40 pm EST
Coors Field – Denver, Colorado
Broadcast – MLB TV
We may be less than two weeks into the season, but this pitching matchup is already a repeat. These two teams opened the season against one another and these pitchers faced off on March 29th against one another. In that game, the Diamondbacks hit two first inning home runs off of Patrick Sandoval. Sandoval has given up 9 earned runs in 9 innings this year as well. Now, they’ll have the thin air of Coors Field to help assits them in the process.
If we need even more incentive to take the YRFI here, then check out the Diamondbacks’ first inning success rate. They’ve scored a first inning run in 63.6% of all their games so far this year. They’re also 3rd in the league in scoring throughout the game – 6.0 innings per game.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 9: Yes (-135)
