MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 7
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Atlanta Braves
First Pitch – 1:35 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, Georgia
Broadcast – MLB TV
There is no team in the majors scoring more first inning runs than the Diamondbacks. They’re scoring 2.33 runs per game in the first inning alone. Some of that was their outburst on Saturday night where they grabbed 6 runs off Max Fried. However, doing so against him should inspire more confidence. Chris Sale seems a little bit of an easier target on Sunday as well.
On the other side of this one, we have the team that led the league in first inning runs last year. The Braves have been waiting until late to score a lot of their runs this year, but they get a much easier matchup on Sunday in Ryne Nelson, who gave up five runs to the Yankees and didn’t make it out of the third.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 7: Yes (-135)
New York Mets vs. Cincinatti Reds
First Pitch – 1:40 pm EST
Great American Ball Park – Cincinatti, Ohio
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Mets are one of three teams left in the league that have yet to score in the first. It shouldn’t help when they face Andrew Abbott. The Mets team collectively has hit .154 off of him over the course of their careers. Expect the Mets team to stay cold in this one, which puts this one all on the shoulders of the Reds.
If this one is resting on the Reds scoring early runs off Sean Manaea, then count me out. He was excellent in his first game and against a solid Tigers’ offense. He held them scoreless over six innings. Needing him to just get three quick outs here at basically even money seems like a no-brainer.
