Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – April 3
Paul Goldschmidt – Higher than 0.5 Singles
He may be facing a solid starter in Joe Musgrove on Wednesday, but Goldschmidt has had wild success against him in the past. In 21 career at bats against Musgrove, Goldschmidt is hitting .524. Eight of those eleven hits are singles, which means that he’s got that kind of average with only three extra base hits. The singles play seems to be the wisest one when it comes to this matchup.
Yordan Alvarez – Higher than 0.5 Runs
Speaking of batters who own a pitcher, Alvarez faces off with Chris Bassitt on Wednesday. He’s only hitting .333 against the Blue Jays’ righty. However, in 15 at bats, four of the five hits are home runs. You could play the home run projection (which is a ‘Pick’em Scorcher’ at 1.75), but the run play is a safer way to capitalize on the same thing while safe guarding against the odd chance he doesn’t go yard.
George Kirby – Higher than 5.0 Strikeouts
The Guardians have been one of the better teams at putting the ball in play over the last few years. They’re currently 6th in the league in the short year in terms of strikeouts per game, with 7.17. However, they are coming off an 11 strikeout game, and George Kirby isn’t your average pitcher. He got the Red Sox for 8 last game over 6.2 innings. I expect him to keep the pitch count down and go deep in this one. If that’s the case, it’d be wild to see three strikeouts shaved off his last game.
