NBA First FG Props – March 30
Memphis Grizzlies vs. Orlando Magic
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
Kia Center – Orlando, Florida

The Grizzlies should have a decent advantage here on all the early indicators for first scores. They have a 3.5% advantage on the success rate for first field goals, but they also have an even larger advantage on the tip. Jaren Jackson Jr. is winning 74.6% of the tips, which is good for third best in the NBA. Wendell Carter Jr., meanwhile, wins just 48.7% of his.
The Grizzles have score first in 37 games so far this year. In 14 of them, Jaren Jackson Jr. was the one to score them. If you can’t do that math at home, that’s 37.8% of all of their games. That percentage is high enough that if you played him on every first bucket that the Grizzlies have won this year, you’d have a solid profit. As a result, I’m down to try another.

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Atlanta Hawks

State Farm Arena – Atlanta, Georgia

This is a game where the stats tell a bit of the story, but the trends paint a very different picture. The Bucks have a lead in first bucket success rate and tipoff win percentage. However, in both of the games they’ve played this year, the lean has gone to the Hawks. Despite Brook Lopez winning both of the tips, the Hawks scored first in both games. The low percentage shots that the Bucks take were enough to put them in a bad spot.
Back in December, De’Andre Hunter scored three straight first buckets for the Hawks. Since then, he doesn’t have a single one. While that isn’t a good look, he’s getting a lot of their early shots in the last three games – including the first shot on Wednesday. Perhaps it’s time to get him back on the board.
