Max Shulga (VCU) Lower Than 20.5 Points+Rebounds+Assists
VCU guard Max Shulga enters tonight’s game averaging 14.3 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game this year. However, he’s failed to go over 20.5 PRA in four of his last five games.
Shulga has always taken on a heavy workload at VCU, but his minutes have been cut to 30 and 24 over his last two. He suffered back spasms early in the month, but there hasn’t been any specific news recently, so the reduction in minutes is odd. This number is a bit beefy for a combo guard working a lighter load.
Shulga is also drawing the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City. Opponents coming to Jon M. Huntsman Arena are only shooting 29.8% from beyond the arc. The Utes are also 46th overall in Adjusted Defense. Look for Shulga to struggle on the road, and make sure he’s in your Underdog college basketball pick’em entry for March 27.
Dylan Addae-Wusu (Seton Hall) Higher Than 1.5 3-Pointers Made *SPICY*
Seton Hall guard Dylan Addae-Wusu gets to face UNLV coming back to New Jersey for the second time in a week. Addae-Wusu enters this game averaging 1.2 made threes per game. However, he’s a bit more comfortable at Walsh Gymnasium. Addae-Wusu averaged 1.9 made threes per game at home.
In addition to the home cooking, Addae-Wusu has cleared 1.5 made three-pointers in five straight games. That streak includes a tough matchup against North Texas in which he made two three-balls on eight attempts.
In fact, Addae-Wusu has clearly been given the green light to fire from beyond the arc. He’s made at least eight attempts in 10 straight games.
UNLV is tough defensively, but they’re not nearly as nasty as North Texas can be. Given the trend and the home spot, Addae-Wusu should clear the spicy number.
Branden Carlson (Utah) Higher Than 6.5 Rebounds
Utah Utes center Branden Carlson is averaging 6.7 rebounds per game entering this NIT quarterfinal matchup. He’s only cleared 6.5 boards in three of his last six matchups, but this spot is too good to pass up.
VCU doesn’t really have anyone with the size to bang for rebounds with Carlson. The Rams just got done letting Kasean Pryor grab 10 boards in the second-round matchup. They also let Villanova’s Eric Dixon pull down 13 rebounds in the first round.
Carlson also tends to play better at home. He’s averaging 7.5 rebounds per game when playing in Salt Lake City. He can disappear at times, but VCU isn’t a great rebounding team, and Carlson should find himself under enough second chances to clear 6.5 rebounds.
