Year after year, the SEC becomes more of a basketball conference. Teams like Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Auburn have the infrastructure to win the National Championship. During the regular season, Alabama led the way for most of the time. They fell off down the stretch and gifted the title to Tennessee. Let’s take a look at my 2024 SEC Tournament preview, best bets, and picks.
2024 SEC Tournament Preview, Best Bets, and Picks
Favorite: Tennessee +130
Tennessee was my preseason pick to win this conference at +360, and they got the job done. The Vols have an elite perimeter presence on offense and a strong defense to match it.
Unlike Alabama, which shoots the ball very well, the Vols play even harder on the defensive end! This was the difference during the regular season and will continue to be the case during the SEC Tournament.
Best Bet: Auburn +260
It is surprising to see Auburn as the second favorite in this tournament. What has Kentucky done to have them behind Auburn in the odds? The only thing I would say that separates the two teams in the odds is the experience.
Clearly, Coach Calipari knows how to win a championship with a younger squad, but this Auburn team is battle-tested. Big man Johni Broome is a matchup problem for the league, but I am not sure they have all the pieces to get it done.
Although Auburn’s roster includes some veterans, one of their best players is a true freshman. This may be the difference during the 2024 SEC Tournament.
Longshot: Arkansas +30000
Arkansas was a preseason top-25 team but has disappointed. I still believe their ceiling is extremely high, and Coach Muss knows how to win in March. This team is filled with transfers and simply never gelled. The thing is, when they click, they click.
Arkansas swept Texas A&M this year and nearly won in Tuscaloosa on Saturday. They are an extremely volatile team but have one of the highest ceilings in the entire country.
At 300/1, this is a no-brainer, as Arkansas needs to heat up if they want to continue their season. The Hogs play fast and fearless, which is an extremely dangerous combination. They are live dogs in every game this season and can surely make you some money over the 2024 SEC Tournament.
