NBA First FG Props – February 10
Detroit Pistons vs. Los Angeles Clippers

There’s a massive advantage for the Pistons in this game on Saturday. While the Clippers are a 15.5 point favorite in the game, they have huge issues on the early game stats. Firstly, they’ll have a 22.9% defecit in winning the tip. With the tip winner getting right around 65% of the first field goals, that might already be enough to tail the Pistons. When you add in that the Pistons also have a 20.9% advantage on the first bucket, it’s a done deal.
He doesn’t have a lot of first scores on the year, but Ausar Thompson has gotten some early shots as of late. I also suspect that the departure of Bojan Bogdanovic is going to open more shooting opporunities for him. Given that he’s going to have some huge odds next to his name, let’s forego the the chalk and give the rookie a chance.

Houston Rockets vs. Toronto Raptors

Another game with a wide advantage in the spreadsheet is this one north of the border. The Raptors are the best team in the league when it comes to getting the first scores. They’ve scored first in 67.3% of all games. The Rockets, on the other hand, come in down at 22nd with 45.1%. When you add in that the Raptors have a 8.9% advantage on the tip, it should be a cinch.
Maybe it’s not the first name you think of when you think of the Raptors, but Gary Trent Jr. should be one of the first thoughts when it comes to the first bucket. He’s taken the Raptors first shot in two of their last three games. He also has their first field goal in four of their last seven successes. With the way the line is coming in on him lately, there is no reason not to ride this one.
