NBA First FG Props – December 14
Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Dallas Mavericks
Tipoff – 8:30 pm EST
American Airlines Center – Dallas, Texas
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
The Mavericks are an anomaly when it comes to the early game statistics. They have been brutal on the jump ball at just 34.8%, but have been great with the first buckets at 60.9%. To make matters even better, Dereck Lively seems to be getting the hang of this whole tipoff thing. He’s won two of his last three tips. It won’t hurt that he’s jumping against Rudy Gobert, who has won just 38.1% of jumps. Even if Gobert did take the tip, odds seem to dictate that the Mavericks still would get the first hoop.
Of the guys on the Mavericks, nobody is hotter than Dereck Lively Jr. That might be because nobody else on the team, with the exception of Luka Doncic, can stay healthy. Whatever the reason, Lively has three of their last four first buckets. He has five on the season and there’s no reason to think he can’t get another here.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Sacramento Kings
Tipoff – 10:00 pm EST
Golden 1 Center – Sacramento, California
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
The Thunder have officially moved into first place when it comes to tipoff percentage. A tip win on Monday brough them up to 68.2% and sole leadership of the team with the best tips. The Kings are winning the tip at just 31.8% of the time, and to be honest some of their backups might to better than Domantas Sabonis. While their good defense gets them a better rate on the first buckets, I still favor the Thunder here on the road.
Chet Holmgren hasn’t just been a big part of their tip game – he’s also getting a ton of first buckets. He has a third of their first buckets on the year largely thanks to his ability to score from anywhere. While Sabonis has been playing better defense, that doesn’t seem to stop the Thunder from using what works. Let’s get him back on the board here for the fifth time this year.
