NBA First FG Props – December 4
Boston Celtics vs. Indiana Pacers
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
GainBridge Fieldhouse – Indianapolis, Indiana
Broadcast – TNT
If you look at the data for the jumpballs, the Celtics are second in the NBA. They’re also second in getting the first buckets. However, I’m fading them here due to missing their tip-man, Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis is winning tips at 80% this year but is out with a calf injury. Since leaving, they’ve leaned on Al Horford to do the jumping, and he’s just 25% so far. He’ll be jumping against Myles Turner, who has a 66.7% average, which should be enough to get it done for the Pacers.
Myles Turner has 36.4% of all of the Pacers’ first field goals on the year. However, that number is probably underestimating how many looks he gets early in the game. While he has nothing to show for it, he has taken their first shot in each of the last two games. Let’s get him back on the board in the quarterfinals here.
First FG Bet for December 4: Myles Turner (+600)
New Orleans Pelicans vs. Sacramento Kings
Tipoff – 10:00 pm EST
Golden 1 Center – Sacramento, California
Broadcast – TNT
The difference between these two is a little hard to get a read on. On one hand, the Kings have a higher first bucket percentage by nearly 13%. However, they are far worse on the tipoff. That’s largely due to the solid defense that they play. The Pelicans actually hold a 23% advantage on the jump balls. With teams who have won the tip getting the first bucket at 67%, I’ll lean to the Pelicans here.
After being banged up a bit early in the season, Zion Williamson has become a bit part of the early game for the Pelicans. He took the first shot in the last game and scored the first points. They were, however, on a foul shot. Also, even though this isn’t exactly science, he does have the first bucket in these two team’s only other meeting.
First FG Bet for December 4: Zion Williamson (+600)
