NBA First FG Props – November 29
Utah Jazz vs. Memphis Grizzlies
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
FedExForum – Memphis, Tennessee
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
These teams may be on different trends as terms of win losses lately. However, while the Jazz are putting together a nice little win streak, it’s the Grizzlies who have the positive numbers in the early game statistics. They have won 62.5% of the tips thanks to Jaren Jackson’s prowess. That’s a touch over 15% better than those taking the tips for the Jazz (albeit those numbers are mildly skewed due to Walker Kessler being out for some time). The first bucket stats have an even wider margin with the Grizzlies over 27% ahead of the Jazz in terms of success rates.
While it is a bit on the chalky side, you have to lean with Jaren Jackson if you’re taking someone on the Grizzlies. Not only does he have 40% of the team’s first buckets, he also has four of their last five. Expect him to get an early look here too.
First FG Bet for November 29: Jaren Jackson Jr (+500)
Phoenix Suns vs. Toronto Raptors
Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
Scotiabank Arena – Toronto, Ontario
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
The numbers on these two when it comes to the jumpballs are razor close. Both teams are getting tips at just above 50%. However, there’s a huge gap between the two when it comes to first buckets. The defense of the Raptors has them getting the majority of the first buckets even when they lose the tip. That’s pretty rare given that teams that win the tip have 70% chance of getting the first bucket. That defense and success rate leads me to grab a member of the Raptors.
The Raptors missed out on the first bucket on Tuesday due to some missed shots. Many of those shots belonged to OG Anunoby, who consequently also scored their first bucket on Friday. Getting that many of the early looks it a nice trend that we want to ride.
First FG Bet for November 29: OG Anunoby (+1100)
Philadelphia 76ers vs. New Orleans Pelicans
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
Smoothie King Center – New Orleans, Louisiana
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
The pure numbers between these two teams are not all that different. The Pelicans are roughly 9% better on the tipoff and the 76ers are just under 3% better on the first buckets. The difference maker for this one has to be the trend. The Pelicans have won three of their last five tips and have four first buckets in that span. Embiid has won just two of his last six tips, which is enough to lean to the Pelicans.
He’s only got one of the first field goals on the year, but Dyson Daniels has been getting many of the early looks. He’s taken one of the Pelicans first three shots in each of the the last three games. While he’d be an exciting play, CJ McCollum is likely to return from his collapsed lung on Wednesday. Given that, I’m going to say that he might get the look that Daniels was getting – particularly if they want to get him going early in his return.
First FG Bet for November 29: CJ McCollum (+800)
