NBA First FG Props – November 24
Boston Celtics vs. Orlando Magic
Tipoff – 2:30 pm EST
Amway Center – Orlando, Florida
Broadcast – NBA TV
The easiest way to gain an advantage on the books during the first bucket props is the tip. The team the wins the jump is grabbing the first bucket 68.64% of the time on the year – so a little better than 2-to-1. The Magic have turned into my favorite team to fade on the jump. After Wendell Carter went down, Goga Bitadze has gone 0-10 on jumpballs. The Magic have just two first buckets in that span as well. Being that the Celtics are top three in both of those categories, this is going to be someone in green.
The Celtics have eleven first buckets on the year, and two different players have four. Jaylen Brown, who nabbed one on Wednesday, and Jrue Holiday, who, despite getting some early looks, hasn’t had one in eleven days. Let’s go with the dry spell ending here for Holiday.
First FG Bet for November 24: Jrue Holiday (+850)
Chicago Bulls vs. Toronto Raptors
Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
Scotiabank Arena – Toronto, Ontario
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
Much like the Magic, the Bulls are an easy team to fade on the jump. Nikola Vucevic is tipping at just 25% on the year. The Raptors’ Jakob Poeltl hasn’t been a world-beater on the jump at just 46.7% on the year, but the combination of good defense and high-percentage shots have the Raptors as the best first bucket team in the league. They’re 14-1 on the year in getting the first shot to fall.
The Raptors don’t have a clear frontrunner for first buckets. They have three guys with at least three first buckets. I’ll go with the man who’s taking some of the highest percentage shots on the team in Pascal Siakam. He’s shooting 49.8% from the field and has more attempts than any other player on the Raptors.
First FG Bet for November 24: Pascal Siakam (+500)
Detroit Pistons vs. Indiana Pacers
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
Gainbridge Fieldhouse – Indianapolis, Indiana
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
If you look at the raw stats here, these two are nearly identical. The Pacers have a slight lead on the tip at 64.3% to 60%. They have a slight lead on first bucket, too, at 57.1% to 53.3%. However, what those numbers don’t tell you is the impact of Jalen Duren. The Pistons’ center reportedly practiced in full on Wednesday and should be set to play (and tipoff) on Thursday. Before he went down hurt, he was nabbing 75% of jumps. He should be a difference-maker on Thursday.
Only two Pistons have multiple first buckets on the season. One of them is backup center Marvin Bagley III. Being that Myles Turner is top 20 in defensive rating (amongst players who have at least ten games played), picking a center here seems unlikely. The other with multiple first buckets is Cade Cunningham. Let’s plan on him hitting from the outside.
First FG Bet for November 24: Cade Cunningham (+650)
