NBA First FG Props – November 22
Chicago Bulls vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
Paycom Center – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
The Bulls are one of the three worst teams in the league when it comes to the tipoff. They’ve won the tip just four of the fifteen games that they’ve played. Now, they’re playing some decent defense, so they’ve managed to get seven of the first buckets. While that’s not bad, the Thunder are doing far better in both spots. They’re a top-five team in the league on the tip, thanks to Chet Holmgren, and they are getting over half the first buckets.
Chet Holmgren has been the chalk play for the Thunder for a while now. It’s easy enough to ride with him in just about every game. However, he will be facing the improved defense of Nikola Vucevic, which has been big for the Bulls. So we’ll pivot to another guy getting a lot of early shots. Josh Giddey has been getting more looks altogether as of late – let’s ride with him.
First FG Bet for November 22: Josh Giddey (+600)
Philadelphia 76ers vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
Target Center – Minneapolis, Minnesota
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
The Timberwolves have been surprisingly good this season, riding into Wednesday at 10-3. However, that record certainly doesn’t come from their early game success, where they’re grabbing the tip at just 38.5% and the first bucket at 30.8% (second worst in the league). The 76ers didn’t start the year great on the first bucket but have five of the last six so far. That makes up for Embiid’s below-average tipoff skills.
Embiid has gotten the last two first buckets for the squad, and as a result, we’re going to fade the idea that he gets three straight. Instead, we’ll look to the guy who is second on the team in field goal attempts – Tyrese Maxey. He also has a lot of floating jump shots in the lane early in the last few games.
First FG Bet for November 22: Tyrese Maxey (+700)
Los Angeles Clippers vs. San Antonio Spurs
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
Frost Bank Center – San Antonio, Texas
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
Fading the Clippers on the early game is never really a bad play. They have won just one tip in a dozen games. Zubac hasn’t even been close on most of his jumps, and he’ll be up against Victor Wembanyama on Wednesday. The Spurs are getting half of their game’s first buckets, while the Clippers are getting just a third. A Spurs player should be the easy lean here.
As I’ve mentioned in the past, the difficulty with the Spurs side is finding a player. In the first six first buckets they got, each was a different player. Wemby became the first player with a second when he tipped and beat these same Clippers. However, the first shot went to fellow big-man Zach Collins. That’s not the first time, and it seems like the Spurs surplus of height may create another opening for Collins.
First FG Bet for November 22: Zach Collins (+900)
