NBA First FG Props – November 14
Miami Heat vs. Charlotte Hornets
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
Spectrum Center – Charlotte, North Carolina
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
The Heat are currently first in the league in terms of tip win percentage. They’ve won 80% of the tips at this point, and both of the losses they have were in their first two games. The Hornets aren’t bad on the tip at 66.7% on the year, but they haven’t been much for scoring the first basket. Only two of their six wins have turned into them scoring first – so Miami should be the play here.
The Heat have five first buckets on the year and only one person with multiples – Jimmy Butler. However, Butler hasn’t been taking many of the early shots lately. Instead, a lot of the early action has been in the hands of Bam Adebayo and Kyle Lowry. Being that the odds are way steeper on Lowry, let’s ride that number.
First FG Bet for November 14: Kyle Lowry (+1600)
Orlando Magic vs. Brooklyn Nets
Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
Barclays Center – Brooklyn, New York
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
If you look at the raw team data, you might lean to the Magic. They have a slightly better number on the tip at 4-5 compared to 4-6 for the Nets. They have a significantly better set of numbers on the first buckets at 6-3 compared to 3-7 for the Nets. However, that’s not taking into account the jumper. The Magic have Goga Bitadze filling in for injured Wendell Carter Jr. Since he’s taken over, they are 0-4 on the jump and 1-3 on the first field goal. As a result, we’ll ride with the Nets here.
Mikal Bridges seems like the obvious play here. He is shooting nearly 17 times a game. He rips three-pointers early in the game and is aggressive, particularly early on.
First FG Bet for November 14: Mikal Bridges (+450)
Portland Trailblazers vs. Utah Jazz
Tipoff – 9:00 pm EST
Delta Center – Salt Lake City, Utah
Broadcast – NBA League Pass
The Blazers have a solid record on the jump at 66.7% in the early season. The Jazz are just a touch better at 70%. While that might be too close to make a call, we’ll lean to the Jazz, with the Blazers being terrible at getting anything off of those tips. Of the six tipoffs they’ve won, exactly two have turned into first buckets for them. So even if the Jazz don’t edge out Deandre Ayton for this jump, they are still front runners to score first.
Lauri Markkanen is leading the way for the first bucket here in so many ways. He has led the team in scoring in six of their nine games. He leads the team in shots as well, and if that’s not enough, he’s attempted their first field goal in two of their last four games.
First FG Bet for November 14: Lauri Markkanen (+500)
