Underdog Fantasy Daily Pick’Em Entry – October 9
Zack Wheeler – Higher than 15.5 Recorded Outs
There’s no pulling punches on the Braves’ offensive performance during game 1. They looked like a team that had taken nearly a week off and hadn’t seen opposing pitching in all of that time. All of that came against Philadelphia’s number three starter, Ranger Suarez, who Wheeler has a clear leg up on.
However, even if you’re in the camp of game 1 being a fluke and the Braves are ‘due,’ Wheeler still is likely to pitch into the sixth inning. If you don’t count his quick tuneup against the Pirates to close out the season, Wheeler has recorded at least 16 outs in all but one game since July 4th. That game was against these very same Braves, but he bounced back with six complete innings in his next start against them.
Zac Gallen – Higher than 15.5 Recorded Outs
I know it’s bold to go with pitchers going deep into the games in the post-season in this era where managers seemingly are looking for a reason to pull their guy. With that being said, I think the Diamondbacks are going to let Gallen go for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, Gallen is their guy. He has been all year. In fact, up until the last month of the season, it seemed like he had a decent shot at winning the Cy Young. The second reason is that they already let Merrill Kelly go deep. Up big on Saturday, he still got the chance to start the seventh. I can’t see why Gallen wouldn’t have the same opportunity.
Christian Walker – Lower than 0.5 Singles
Christian Walker has had a tough go of it lately. He’s got just four hits in his last seven games, and three of them came in the same one. He also hasn’t loved hitting off of Bobby Miller, who starts on Monday for the Dodgers. He’s 1-for-6 career off of him. Even if you think he’s about to break out of this mini-slump, it usually isn’t with singles. In his last eight games, he has just one game with a single in it.
