Underdog Fantasy Daily Pick’Em Entry – October 3

Jesus Luzardo – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts

Luzardo didn’t end the season with a big number against the Brewers, but he has reached this projection in four of his last six starts. That includes two different games with eight strikeouts – one against the Rays and one against the Braves. Not only are the Phillies a bit of an easier lineup to strike out. They average 9.14 strikeouts per game, which is good for 23rd in the majors.

If you need even more reason to feel confident in Luzardo, look no further than his career stats against the Phillies. Three different Phillies have struck out more than half of their career at-bats against him – Nick Castellanos, Bryce Harper, and Kyle Schwarber./

Marcus Semien – Higher than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI

Semien closed the regular season strong against this line. He went higher than this projection in six of his last eight games to close things out. A lot of his ability to reach this mark comes from his ability to get on base and score runs. He finished the season just outside of the top 25 in walks. Game 1’s opposing pitcher, Tyler Glasnow, could help that fact with his walks on a slight uptick as of late.

Speaking of Glasnow, Semien also has a great track record against the Rays’ hurler. In nine career plate appearances head-to-head, Semien has four hits against him. All four of those hits have gone for extra bases, too.

Brandon Pfaadt – Higher than 4.0 Strikeouts

Pfaadt might not be a name that we expected starting Game 1 of a playoff series, but here we are. While it might be a surprise, he’s been hitting his stride as of late, particularly in the strikeout market. The last time he went lower than four strikeouts was on July 29th against the Mariners. He’s had 11 starts since then, and only four times has he had exactly four. Even in a slow performance on Tuesday, he should at least push.
