Underdog Fantasy Daily Pick’Em Entry – September 12
Jose Altuve – Higher than 0.5 Singles
Since Jose Altuve’s historic home run outburst last week, he’s largely come back down to Earth. That doesn’t mean he hasn’t been good – in fact, he’s riding a four-game hitting streak. However, all but one hit during that streak have been singles, which is why I really love the underdog projection here. JP Sears takes the hill for Oakland, and he actually has been better at limiting big hits lately as well.
Max Fried – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts
Fried came up short of this projection last time but had hit it in each of the previous three starts – which includes a 10-strikeout performance against the Dodgers. He averaged eight per game over that stretch.
The Phillies are already a team that strikes out a lot. They are in the bottom third of the league when it comes to striking out. Additionally, they have even seen an uptick in this series with the Braves. While their season average sits at 9.06 per game, they’ve struck out 13.33 times per game over this series.
Daulton Varsho – Lower than 0.5 Total Bases
I was big on Daulton Varsho at the beginning of the year. He really broke out last year and appeared to be a guy who could help this Blue Jays team along. However, he’s hitting .217 on the year, which has gotten even worse this month. He’s hitting .185 in September and has just two hits in his last seven games. Facing Max Scherzer on Tuesday probably won’t help matters for him.
