Kentucky Derby Picks
The guys (@GamblingPodcast) give out their Kentucky Derby picks for the 2023 Kentucky Derby. They cover the 2023 Kentucky Derby odds, favorite Kentucky Derby longshots, horse racing predictions for The Kentucky Oaks and more. (6:15) Kentucky Oaks Picks – Friday
This Kentucky Oaks, aka Race 11, takes place Friday and is fillies only. You could make a case for a lot of horses in this race. The favorite at 5-2 is Wet Paint and for good reason as she’s won three times at Oaklawn. Another good bet is Southlawn at 8-1 or Flying Connection at 10-1 who’s been running at higher elevation in New Mexico.
(16:18) Twin Spires Turf Sprint Stakes Picks – Saturday
Race 7 includes 14 horses and is run on turf as the name implies. Nobles at 20-1 could be a good bet and is running on the rail from the 1 post. The guys also like Bad Beat Brian at 16-1 and Notorious at 8-1.
(20:10) The Kentucky Derby Picks – Saturday
After last year’s 80-1 longshot Rich Strike took the crown, don’t let any horse scare you off. A good tip for beginner horse racing bettors is to research jockey’s or trainer’s historical performance and pick their horses. If they win consistently then their horse is a decent bet. Sean likes the Japanese horse Derma Sotogake at 10-1 and Hit Show at 30-1 as a longshot play.
A Japanese horse has never won the Kentucky Derby but Derma Sotogake did have a big win at the UAE Derby in March this year. Wolf likes Kingsbarns at 12-1 (one of three horses running the Derby from trainer Todd Pletcher) and Verifying at 15-1. Mal is with Wolf on Kingsbarns at 12-1 and the favorite Forte at 3-1. If you’re looking for a longshot the 50-1 longshot Reincarnate is a good option. Kramer likes the matchup props with Kingsbarns and if you can find a Last Place prop, then Derma Sotogake at 25-1.
