Final Four DFS – Saturday, April 1
Top Tier:
Adama Sanogo, F UConn $8,200
Sanogo is the odds-on favorite for Most Outstanding Player of the tournament as Connecticut is favored to win it all. His least impressive game from the field produced a stat line of 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists during the 28-point win over Gonzaga in the Elite Eight.
This UConn team hums around Sanogo on offense. The inside-out game is where they live and we’ve preached it all tournament. Huskies are able to win with Sanogo shooting just 27.3% due to how complete they are on both offense and defense. Now Sanogo goes from the number five two-point defense (Gonzaga) to a match-up with the Canes.
The Hurricanes are allowing opponents to shoot 51.6% on two-point shots (246th in the country). We remember the Hurricanes’ win against Houston and the comeback against Texas (without Dylan Disu) powered by Jordan Miller going perfect from the field and FT line. We have to remind ourselves that Miami’s tallest player on the court is 6’7 in Norchad Omier.
Omier has the propensity to get himself in foul trouble. Miami will have to lean on their offensive pace to win this game. They will not be able to contain the inside game of the Huskies. He is the highest price for a reason and quite easy to build around with the other prices provided to us.
Andre Jackson Jr, G UConn $7,100
Jackson might the most important player on this Connecticut team but, he won’t get recognized as such. Jackson is the glue guy. He has as many assists (31) as points this tournament and his rebounds tail right behind (28). He has stayed on the court for the Huskies and out of foul trouble allowing the counting stats to accumulate and I’m somehow still understating his importance.
There is an outside chance of a double-double DFS bonus with Jackson. He came through with 10 assists and 9 rebounds last game. Both totals surpass his 8 points. He isn’t a three-point specialist who won’t get to the free-throw line often. However, there isn’t much carved out specifically in the offense for him.
He’s just where he needs to be. And he needs to be in our lineups again. He is the only player remaining in this tournament with a slight chance at a triple-double. A glue guy for the Huskies and our lineups all tournament long.
Mid Tier:
Wooga Poplar, G Miami $6,200
Coming off his best performance of the tournament in terms of fantasy points, Poplar heads into a matchup where the Hurricanes will be undersized. This spot could force another 30-plus minute game from the Miami guard. The shorter slate bumped his price up by a cool grand so this is a bit of a buy-high spot.
Hoping the minutes stay the same as well as his activity on the glass carries over from the previous game when he had six, although he hovers around four typically. He is as good a choice as any at this number when the goal is to get as much exposure to the right side of the bracket as possible.
Bargin:
Nathan Mensah, F SDSU $5,700
The entire Aztec lineup is separated by $1,000 in price. The books don’t know who will show up. Brian Dutcher will make his lineup work and they will play hard for the longtime Steve Fisher assistant. SDSU has the 21st most experienced team in the country and played the 19th toughest schedule this season.
They have eight contributors within this price range. Matt Bradley is the team’s leading scorer this season and the fourth priced-out Aztec. He has limited offensive upside but the guessing game of the Aztecs is who will get minutes. Mensah (6’11) is the rim protector and shot blocker tallying 12 blocks next to his 27 rebounds in the dance.
The biggest selling point here is his large frame and rebounding. Mensah will be needed next to FAU’s Vladislav Goldin (7’1) to make up for the height. I’m betting on Mensah getting minutes out of necessity which should provide at least rebounds and a couple of blocks. The Aztecs are price friendly when filling out your lineup but Mensah is my favorite.
