2023 MLB Preview

The guys (@GamblingPodcast) are joined by the hosts from The MLB Gambling Podcast Munaf ‘The Machine’ Manji (@SportsNerd824) and Malcolm Bamford (@Mal_B_Sport) for their 2023 MLB preview podcast. They give out their favorite NL Win Totals, AL Win Totals, CY Young Award picks, MVP picks and 2023 World Series predictions. The 2023 MLB predictions podcast is a two part series part one focuses on the AL and part two focuses on the NL.

(8:19) American League Win Totals

(8:26) AL East Preview

The Tampa Bay Rays may have trouble scoring runs to support their pitching staff and could take a step back this season with the rest of the division being exciting. An under bet on their 89.5 total wins seems like a solid bet. However, with a win total close to this number, they can still win this division according to Malcolm. He also believes the Red Sox will have enough action on the bats to get the over on their win total of 77.5. The Orioles can be a sneaky pick to win the division outright with their exciting young talent. The Blue Jays also are returning plenty of talent that will help them score a ton of runs. Combined with their pitching, they can easily make a run at winning the division.

(22:43) AL Central Preview

The Guardians, White Sox, and Twins should be battling towards the top of this division this year. Conversely, the Kansas City Royals should be fielding a fairly old roster that should be dragging them down this year. At 70.5 total wins for the year, the Detroit Tigers should be under this as they can easily be the worst team in the league.

(27:06) AL West Preview

Despite having two of the best players in the league, the Angels are still bad. Most of this is due to their lack of pitching ability throughout the years which should still persist. The Astros have been more than solid for years and are able to adjust based off their needs come the trade deadline, it is hard to think less of them. Seattle went on a big run last year and scraped out 90 wins, but seem like they could be due for a little bit of a regression and fall under their line of 87.5 wins. Regardless of their past issues, taking the Angels to make the playoffs at +165 could be a good bet.

(40:15) National League Win Totals

(40:18) NL Central Preview

St. Louis is coming off a strong year last year due to their strong bullpen and solid, young lineup. Simply put, the Cardinals are a machine and there is no reason to fade them when history doesn’t say to. The Cubs also made some significant improvements and should continue to trend in the right direction. Winning the division for them is at +650, a line worth noticing with all the big names they have.

(47:15) NL West Preview

The Arizona Diamondbacks are arguably underrated, mostly because of the strength of their division. Taking them at 40-1 to win their division is a very sneaky bet you could make on the dynamic and aggressive team. On the flip side, the San Diego Padres are a team that could beginning to regress and could hit under on their 93.5-win line.

(54:08) NL East Preview

Atlanta hosts a team that just might be the best team in baseball. Their team is very deep and has the perfect mesh to put together another strong campaign. However, the Mets can battle them for the best team in the division, and so can the Phillies. Although, the Phillies will be without Bryce Harper for a little bit and could experience some regression compared to their strong run last year. Later in the year could be the time to take the Phillies as the division winner.

(1:00:28) Cy Young Predictions

Shohei Ohtani and Chris Sale are two guys to look out for in the American League, with both having some very nice odds. Jacob DeGrom is priced at 40-1 to win the award after being 3-1 before last year, unfortunately he got hurt. He is still arguably the best pitcher in baseball and if healthy, can win the Cy Young. Gallen is another young pitcher poised to make some noise in the Cy Young voting. Justin Steele is at 200-1 for the Cy Young and a listener of the show, odds like this for an avid listener are ones you cannot miss out on!

(1:08:30) MLB MVP Picks

Malcolm AL: Mike Trout, Bo Bichette Malcolm NL: Ronald Acuna Jr. Munaf AL: Jose Ramirez, Kyle Tucker Munaf NL: Trae Turner Kramer AL: Bo Bichette Kramer NL: Paul Goldschmidt Sean NL: Trea Turner, Seiya Suzuki

(1:13:44) World Series Predictions

Malcolm: Tampa Bay Rays over St. Louis Cardinals 130-1 Munaf: Atlanta Braves over Toronto Blue Jays 50-1 Kramer: Cleveland Guardians over St. Louis Cardinals 150-1 Sean: Philadelphia Phillies over Minnesota Twins 250-1
