March Madness Picks Part 2 w/ Jay Bilas
The guys (@GamblingPodcast) give out more March Madness picks as part of their latest college basketball predictions podcast. They’re also joined by Jay Bilas (@JayBilas) to talk all things NCAA Tournament, Duke’s first season with Jon Scheyer, his favorite March Madness upsets and more!
There is a slew of guests for this show, which is part 2 of the March Madness picks for the Round of 64, which will be played on Friday March 17th. One special guest is Jay Bilas, Duke alum and ESPN Analyst. He believes Duke is good enough to play in the Final Four, but their first-round opponent Oral Roberts is a legitimate upset contender. Bilas is impressed with how first year head coach Jon Scheyer has coached especially when he has had all hands on deck. With how crazy this year has been, he believes you just have to take some random flyers to go further than they should.
USC and Michigan State will kick Friday off with State favored by 1.5. Michigan State got the extra rest by being knocked out of their conference tournament early. They also have a lot of experience in their backcourt which always fairs well.
Kennesaw State battles Xavier as a 11.5-point dog. State is 9-3 as a dog against the spread. Xavier is a good team but they should not have this much of a spread to cover, especially with their shaky defense as of late.
UCSB and Baylor have a spread of 11 points with Baylor favored. Athletically, Baylor can be imposing for UCSB, but UCSB can score well. They have real good guards that can give Baylor issues.
VCU and St. Mary’s meet in Albany with St. Mary’s -4. Unfortunately for St. Mary’s, they had to travel very far to get to this game. Overall, they had a solid year but nothing too impressive to make them clear winners.
Marquette takes on Vermont as -11 favorites. The public seems to be on Vermont the most in terms of 15 seed upsets, as they can physically match up with Marquette fairly well. Vermont also has a starting 5 of all seniors who will face a very young Marquette team.
Creighton is -5.5 against NC State. Both teams are coming off 20-point losses. NC State seemingly does not belong in the tournament and Creighton just had a slight blunder.
Iona will try their hand at covering a +9.5-point spread against UConn. This game will be played in Albany, which is in close proximity to UConn, who has fans that travel well. UConn has very good wins throughout the year but there is a big coaching advantage for Iona.
Providence is +4.5 against Kentucky. Providence struggles with rebounding but does solid against the spread. Kentucky has struggled with guard play all year and could find trouble here with Providence.
Drake versus Miami is an interesting potential upset to watch. Miami is -2 but has suffered from injuries as of late. Drake is a well-coached team poised to make some noise with a classic father-son duo for coach and best player.
Gonzaga is -15.5 against the 14 seeded Grand Canyon. Gonzaga is seemingly underrated and can silently cause destruction in their region. Grand Canyon shoots well from the three and the stripe though and should be able to stick around.
Florida Atlantic and Memphis are two very solid teams. Memphis is -2 in this one, but FAU might not be getting the correct respect. FAU though is very young while Memphis is full of seniors.
Montana State is +8.5 points against Kansas State. Kansas State is a very legit team who is 19th in defensive efficiency but Montana State is third in the country from the line.
Indiana is attempting fend off Kent State who is the 4-point dog in this one. Indiana does have a good offense but Kent State’s defense should over power, as they were able to keep Houston under 50 points.
