With the Potential Crisis Facing Manchester City, What’s Next for Pep Guardiola?

Over the course of nine years, Manchester City have been accused of breaking Premier League financial rules an incredible 115 times. This makes the future of star manager Pep Guardiola uncertain.

Guardiola has only just extended his contract with City in November, taking him through to June 2025. The coach has been at City since 2016, making him the second-longest-serving manager in the Premier League behind Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool.

Guardiola has previously stated his interest in pursuing international coaching opportunities. So, the next time you stop by Maxbet, you might want to place a wager on where you think he will be managing next.

We have selected some national teams we believe will be the most appealing to this generational manager.

Argentina

Guardiola has aspirations of serving as a manager for both the World Cup and Copa America. He could accomplish it while guiding the man who helped make him a managerial superstar, Messi.

In 2018, there were whispers that Guardiola would be hired by Argentina. It was said that the federation planned to pay him $12 million a year to try to get him to leave Man City. According to Sergio Aguero, Pep Guardiola has expressed his desire to coach La Albiceleste. Since Pep is rumored to be interested in this job, the odds, if you bet on it, may be quite desirable.

Brazil

Last month, Guardiola supposedly turned down the opportunity to coach Brazil.

Pere, Pep’s brother, and agent were contacted to see if his brother might replace Tite as the Selecao manager. He ultimately turned the job down because he wanted to accomplish his goal at City and win the Champions League with them.

While on sabbatical in 2012, Guardiola reportedly expressed interest in replacing Mano Menezes as the head coach of Brazil in the lead-up to the 2014 World Cup. Though Luiz Felipe Scolari was ultimately chosen for the position, he and the other candidates maintained cordial relationships throughout the process.

Netherlands

In January 2022, Mirror Football claimed that the KNVB had set up plans to entice Guardiola to coach the Netherlands after he departs City, with Johan Cruyff being one of his inspirations.

They reached out to Guardiola before his contract renewal with City in the hopes that he would return Total Football to the Oranje. For those who are too young to remember. During the ’80s and ’90s, the Dutch football team were renowned for playing glorious football. Something Pep is, of course, all about.

Spain

Pep Guardiola’s potential appointment as Spain manager was a popular one with Luis Enrique. In 2021, Luis Enrique commented, “I would love it; it would be fantastic.”

It looks like Guardiola hasn’t even contemplated the possibility. In 2018, he said that he didn’t think this was likely to happen, but he didn’t say why. Subsequently, he stated on Spanish television that he would never be offered the position of national team coach.

Guardiola’s strong feelings for Catalan independence may prohibit him from coaching the Spanish national team. This is a very divisive political topic that could end up taking precedence over any decision based purely on football reasons.
