Big South, Northeast + Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Conference Tournament Previews
The guys (@GamblingPodcast) continue their college basketball conference tournament predictions covering the Big South, the Northeast Conference and the Ohio Valley Conference tournament.
This episode features outlooks on the college basketball conference tournament previews of the Big South, Northeast, and Ohio Valley. Even those these aren’t big time conferences, big time basketball is still played.
Big South Conference Tournament Preview:
Asheville is a key player in this conference and one team to take note of. Winthrop is one of the better offensive teams in this conference and could also do some damage. The bottom teams in the Big South don’t do well against the spread so a good idea would be to take the favorite to cover in the second round of the tournament. Each game is at a neutral site for this conference.
Charleston Southern/High Point: High Point -1
In terms of unit production, Charleston Southern has the better offensive unit. Although, High Point is closer to the location of the game so they could eek out a solid crowd. In the last 10 games High Point is 4-6 and Southern is 2-8, so both teams have their struggles.
Campbell/Presbyterian: Campbell -7
Presbyterian has been horrid all year and is fighting to be the worst team in college basketball. Despite this reputation, they did beat Campbell by 10 when they played.
Gardner Webb/USC Upstate: Gardner Webb -4
Gardner Webb is seeking revenge after losing to Upstate in the year. Webb does not shoot from the line well though, but they do play solid defense.
Winthrop/Radford: Radford -3
Winthrop is top 20 in the country at the three ball and shoots 75% from the line. On the other side though, Radford plays great defense, which always shows up in conference tournaments.
Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Preview:
Morehead State is the favorite of this conference and have won 11 out of their last 12. Despite this good play though, anyone can win this conference. One longshot with a good chance to win it all talent wise is Southeastern Missouri as they have beat big time teams this year, including Morehead State.
Southeastern Missouri/Lindenwood: SEMO -5
Lindenwood seems to just be happy to be in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, and could not be very hung up on getting a win. SEMO should be able to lock up this cover.
Edwardsville/Southern Indiana: Edwardsville -1
Southern Indiana won by 10 the last time they played and neither team is much better than the other.
Northeast Conference Tournament Preview:
Wagner won at Temple this year and plays a tough style of basketball with great defense and hard offensive rebounding. Merrimack is a heavy favorite, but they are not eligible to go to the NCAA tournament since they just transitioned from Division II.
Merrimack/LIU: Merrimack -18
These teams recently played, and Merrimack won by 21 points. LIU only has 3 wins this year and their most impressive win is against Sacred Heart, one of the worst teams in the country.
FDU/St. Francis (NY): FDU -8
When they last played at FDU, FDU whooped them by 17. St. Francis plays horrendous defense.
Central Connecticut/St. Francis (PA): St. Francis -3
St. Francis has played better teams throughout the year but have lost against these teams.
Wagner/Sacred Heart: Sacred Heart -1
Wagner plays better offense but Sacred Heart controls the pace better, whoever has the pace can win this one.
