Prelim Pick of the Week: UFC Freedom 250
UFC Featherweight Fight: Steve Garcia vs Diego Lopes
Start Time: Sunday (6/14) 8:00pm EST (Paramount+)
While this card doesn’t have prelims like a regular fight card, we’ll take a look at the opener. It’s a fight that has a very playable line, especially when you consider the trajectory of the fighters and the stylistic elements.
Is there a fighter hotter than Steve Garcia in this featherweight division? He’s walked into seven straight fights and picked up the win. Not only has he won seven straight, but he’s picked up a KO in each of them without having to see a third round. However, don’t consider him a guy who can’t win a decision. His precision striking and length puts him in a spot where he can beat most people in the division.
Diego Lopes enters Sunday’s contest as the favorite. This is largely due to his high strength of schedule over the last handful of fights. However, in those fights, he’s made it clear that he isn’t afraid to get hit. That’s a bad recipe for fighting a guy like Garcia. In addition, I think the environment will make Lopes want to keep it standing and avoid his wrestling game. If he does, I believe he’ll pay the price for his choices.
