Sean Green laid the points and Ryan Kramer took them, and Ryan was the first to admit his side went against his own gambling instincts. Our Picks
- Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric): Jets +7
- Sean Green (@SeanTGreen): Patriots -7
Ryan opened on the Patriots offense. When their quarterback can hit the deep ball, he said, New England looks awesome, and when a defense takes it away they can look bad. His whole question was whether the Jets defense can game plan that away, since the teams that have had success against the Patriots passing game have done exactly that. He also flagged the Patriots’ Thursday night game against the Bears coming next.
Sean wasn’t buying the Jets. He said the Patriots covered as double-digit favorites in both meetings last year, and that the Jets are 1-9 against the spread in their last 10 games as an underdog against a winning team. He gave Geno Smith credit for raising the Jets’ floor and allowed that division dogs have been good, but he thinks New England has a massive coaching edge. Ryan pushed back on that one. Sean’s bottom line: to cover 7 the Jets probably need 20 points, and he doesn’t think they can get there.
The Jets receiving room came up too. With injuries around him, Sean asked who the Jets are even throwing to, and Ryan’s answer was Garrett Wilson. Ryan also said the Jets offense saw a lot of man coverage the week before and expects the Patriots to create more confusion for Geno Smith. He still went with his gut on the Jets plus the points, saying he can’t trust the Patriots quarterback yet, though he conceded the instincts were on Sean’s side and that the Jets looked due for a blowout.
