FCS Week 6 picks podcast

FCS Week 6 Preview & Picks Recap

The FCS College Football Experience on the Sports Gambling Podcast Network continues its FCS Week 6 picks with Pick Dundee (@TheColbyD), Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) and the guest from Phil Steele Publications. They cover the whole slate, from a Friday noon SWAC game to Tarleton at Austin Peay.

A Hail Mary, A Blown 24-0 Lead And Last Week’s Scars

Last weekend left a mark, so the guys open by sorting through the wreckage. Montana State and Idaho played a classic. But Montana State’s head coach called a timeout with one second left. The explanation was that he wanted to set his defense. Every voice on the panel would have let the clock run. Then Presbyterian, a dog of roughly four touchdowns, beat St. Thomas outright. Prairie View was even worse, losing to Mississippi Valley State after leading 24-0. And Harvard beat Colgate on a Hail Mary caught 10 yards short and pitched to a wide out who scored. That one sat at 14-10 with under a minute left. The total was 36.5, and it still went over by half a point.

Plenty of last week went right, too. The Citadel was a triple lock, and it won outright against South Carolina State. Colby Dant also cashed Howard against Hampton. Then there was the Samford first-half money line against UAB, which came through at 14-13. Western Carolina kept the over streak alive by half a point. The Catamounts also drilled Tennessee Tech by 24. Meanwhile Villanova keeps sinking after a loss to Morgan State. The guest rated Villanova highly coming into the year, so that one stings. Youngstown State also won at Southern Illinois. The guest’s computer now ranks South Dakota State first and Youngstown State second.

Friday Noon SWAC-tion And A Columbia Lean

The hurricane pushed Alabama State and Florida A&M to a standalone noon kick on Friday. That suits the Rattlers just fine. Alabama State lost to Bethune last week without Andrew Boddy, who has missed two games with a wrist injury. Backup Aaron Fry went 12 of 20 for 93 yards. Alabama State also averages just 273 yards a game. Meanwhile Florida A&M is 1-4, but the losses include Miami and a three-point game against Tennessee State. So Colby Dant bets FAMU +14.5. Ryan McIntyre likes the dog in a sleepy early spot with a thin crowd. And the guest joins after planning to pass, because two touchdowns is too much with Boddy out. That makes it a triple lock to start the weekend.

Friday night brings Columbia to Poughkeepsie to face Marist. The Lions are laying 1.5 and the total sits at 42.5. Columbia is 2-1 after a 35-7 beating from Princeton, but it beat Lafayette by six in the opener. Marist, meanwhile, lost to both Lafayette and New Haven. Colby Dant trusts the Ivy League as a step up in competition and lays the short number. It is only a sprinkle, though. Then Ryan McIntyre goes with Columbia too. And the guest calls it basically a pick ’em where Columbia is simply the better team. Columbia also won the last meeting 16-0 two years ago in Manhattan.

The Triple Locks Leading Our FCS Week 6 Picks

Morehead State might be the worst team in the FCS, and the numbers back that up. Morehead averages 4.2 points per game. They lost 37-3 to Valpo last week and 59-2 to Western Illinois. So Dayton -19.5 is a triple lock. The guest’s computer projects 39-7, because Morehead owns the lowest game grade in the FCS. Next comes Cornell +7.5 against Harvard, which is pure situation. Harvard is 3-0 but just spent a week partying over that Hail Mary. Cornell beat Yale at home two weeks ago, and its lone loss came on the road at Colgate. Then Ryan McIntyre calls it a one-possession game, and the whole panel bets the home dog.

Howard +14.5 at Penn is the game Colby Dant circled. Penn has scored 37 points in three games and runs for 3.4 yards a carry. The guest had Penn near the bottom of the Ivy and also locks Howard. And the Bison have a quarterback in Scroggins who threw for 315 against Alabama A&M. So it closes as a triple lock, with a sprinkle on the +450 money line. Samford +10.5 at Chattanooga rounds out this group. Chattanooga averages 91 passing yards a game. The Mocs have thrown 101 passes against 239 runs, basically a triple-option team now. Then the computer’s 22-14 projection pushes the guest onto the dog, and the other two follow.

Double Locks, Foxholes And A Few Overs

Sacred Heart -7.5 against Stonehill started with the guest, who keeps riding the Pioneers. Sacred Heart was only out-gained by 12 yards against UMass, while Stonehill was minus 194. Then Colby Dant joins because the guys haven’t lost on Sacred Heart this year. Indiana State +20.5 against Youngstown State is a double lock from the guest and Ryan McIntyre. The logic is a letdown spot after three huge Youngstown games. Youngstown also hasn’t covered this matchup lately. It won by 19 as a 20-point favorite last year, and by seven as a 14-point favorite the year before. Finally, the guest and Colby Dant take Furman and Tennessee Tech under 45.5. Furman keeps playing low-scoring games, and a flood watch looms over that one.

Ryan McIntyre has a few solo shots worth tailing. First is Robert Morris +10.5 at Morgan State, a classic letdown spot after the Villanova win. Next is Georgetown -2.5 against Bucknell, his foxhole spot for a Hoyas team that should have won the opener. He also bets Towson +6.5 against Stony Brook, because he thinks 0-6 badly undersells them. Meanwhile the guest and Ryan McIntyre lock Brown -3.5 against Bryant. And Colby Dant bets Yale -6.5 at the Yale Bowl, buying into a team playing with purpose. That team is playing for former coach Tony Reno, who passed away before last week’s game.

The Late Slate From The Dakota Dome To Clarksville

The afternoon window brings a pile of triple locks. South Dakota -10.5 against Southern Illinois heads the list. The Coyotes are also 15-5 against the spread as home favorites over four years. Texas Southern -14.5 against Mississippi Valley State is another, since nobody trusts the Delta Devils to sustain anything. Then the guys lay 14.5 with Prairie View off that blown 24-0 lead. The Panthers are 21-10 off a straight-up loss over the last eight years. Ryan McIntyre also leads the charge on Incarnate Word +6.5 against Lamar, and the panel follows.

Tarleton at Austin Peay is the game of the week, and the Govs at -2.5 are a triple lock. Tarleton won 45-44 last season, so revenge is on the table. The guest also loves quarterback Chris Parsons, who is completing 69% with an 11-to-1 ratio. Alabama A&M -2.5 against Bethune-Cookman is another triple lock behind quarterback Cornelius Brown. Then the guys take UT Rio Grande +4.5 at home against Southeastern Louisiana. The guest’s numbers actually have Rio Grande by 5.1. Finally, Abilene Christian -9.5 against Central Arkansas closes the card as one more triple lock.

Weather is the wild card for this slate, and the guys keep flagging it. For Western Carolina at Mercer, the guest found a 90 to 95% chance of rain. Colby Dant still locks the over 56.5, because the Western Carolina over is a system play until it loses. Weber State is the side for Colby Dant and Ryan McIntyre, who fade Idaho off that wild win. Meanwhile the guest locks the over 70.5, since Weber State’s games are 6-0 to the over. The guest also locks the Portland State over 61.5 and the Cal Poly-Idaho State over 64.5. And Colby Dant joins on both.

Howard Is The Pick Everyone Shares

Colby Dant makes Howard +14.5 the lock and nearly calls it the dog, too. Instead the dog pick is UT Rio Grande +4.5. The guest is holding a few plays back for Phil Steele’s FCS tour. But Howard and Abilene Christian both sit near the top of that list. Then Ryan McIntyre goes with Weber State as his lock and Howard as his dog. So all three land on the Bison getting 14.5 at Franklin Field.
