A road favorite laying a hook is usually where an argument starts, and Colby Dant didn’t wait for one. Colby opened on the Wake quarterback, who he says ran for 80 yards in a 57-3 win over Stanford, and argued that a healthy version of him would have changed the Miami game. In his view Wake is playing the best football in the conference right now outside Miami. He admitted the hook was tempting with Wake on the road, then pointed out that Wake won the last time it played in Raleigh.
The NC State side got its turn. The guys noted NC State has won 10 of its last 12 at home, but the same breath turned into a fade, with NC State coming off a big win over Louisville. Colby piled on: Stanford is next for NC State, so what better time to drop one? The pushback on air was that Stanford doesn’t make it a lookahead spot.
A note on the series history between the two schools came up, and Colby brushed it aside. His answer was the coaching staff, which he says is stocked with North Dakota State guys. By his telling, Wake won nine games last year with a quarterback he didn’t think much of, then lost its best offensive lineman, best defensive lineman and both starting receivers and kept rolling anyway. “Deacs all day,” was where he landed. Ryan closed the segment going the other way, taking NC State as the home dog.
