College Football Pick Of The Day (September 26th): NCAA Week 4 Spread Pick
For today’s college football pick of the day, I’m looking at UCLA and Maryland. The Bruins are a tiny 1.5-point favorite on the road at SECU Stadium. That number feels light for a 3-0 team that has covered every week. UCLA is rolling. Maryland is coming off a home loss and has not proven it can hang with a Big Ten offense that actually punches.
UCLA is averaging 41.7 points and 286.7 rushing yards per game. Wayne Knight is the headline, sitting on 345 yards, eight touchdowns, and 8.8 yards per carry. Anthony Woods and Javian Thomas give them a second and third punch. Nico Iamaleava just had his best game in the Big Ten opener, throwing for 276 yards and three touchdowns in a 52-38 win over Purdue.
Maryland’s defensive numbers look shiny at 16.5 points allowed per game. However, most of that is because they played Hampton (winning 62-0) and UConn (38-14). Virginia Tech walked into College Park last week and put up 35. The Terps’ run defense has not seen anything like UCLA’s ground game. Maryland can throw the ball. Malik Washington has 892 yards, six touchdowns, and zero interceptions. However, the Bruins are forcing takeaways and already won a true road game at Cal.
UCLA is 3-0 ATS. They covered as a short favorite at Cal and then smashed two double-digit numbers at home. Last year’s meeting was 20-17 with the Bruins winning. This version of UCLA is better on the ground and more confident. Give me UCLA -1.5.
