College Football Pick Of The Day (September 21st): NCAA Week 4 Spread Pick
For today, the college football bet I have for you is in the big showdown between Texas and Tennessee. There’s been some line movement in this one already. Texas was a 6.5-point favorite at one point and now sees themselves as only a 4.5-point favorite. The Longhorns are 3-0 and coming off a 24-23 win over Ohio State and a 30-6 win over UTSA. However, they’re only 1-2 against the spread so far.
Tennessee is also 3-0. They haven’t faced too tough of competition, taking on Furman, Georgia Tech, and Kennesaw State. This is their SEC opener at home in Neyland Stadium. Josh Heupel is 29-7 at home. Steve Sarkisian called it the loudest stadium in the country this week, and College Gameday is in Knoxville. The environment will be huge.
Texas is playing its first true road game of the season. Arch Manning looked good against Ohio State and ordinary against UTSA. Neyland at noon, with a checkerboard crowd and 100,000+ screaming fans, is the kind of spot that produces extra penalties and stalls drives. Call me a hater. Manning looked good against Ohio State. But I’m still not sold. I think Tennessee can keep this game close and stay within a field goal of a Number One team that hasn’t been tested on the road yet. A 4.5-point cushion is still favorable enough, so I’m taking Tennessee +4.5.
