College Football Pick Of The Day (September 23rd): NCAA Week 4 Spread Pick
For today’s College Football pick of the day, I’m looking at Number 15-ranked Utah at Iowa State. This line feels off to me. I know that Iowa State is the home team, and Jack Trice Stadium is a real spot in a Big 12 opener. However, this number opened at Utah -11.5. It’s come down to 8.5, and that feels too far. The market is liking the Cyclones, and I’m going to be the contrarian.
Utah is 3-0 straight up and 3-0 against the spread. They have outscored other teams 142-24. That’s a 39-point average margin. Granted, it was against Idaho, Arkansas, and Utah. However, they covered the -38.5, -13.5, and -26.5.
Iowa State is 2-1 and 2-1 ATS. However, they needed a game against Bowling Green to look explosive, winning 55-7 after a 16-13 loss at Iowa. That +14.5 cover against Iowa was good. However, it wasn’t evidence that they could hang around a top-tier offense.
Devon Dampier has 690 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and one interception. Utah is averaging 518 yards a game. Iowa State’s passing attack is a different story. Jaylen Raynor has 434 yards this season.
These two teams don’t seem to be on the same level right now, in my opinion. Iowa State may have stolen the last game 31-28 in 2024. However, this isn’t the same Iowa State team. This Utah team is on a mission. Utah is covering -8.5. Now that the Cyclones are gaining momentum in the betting markets, I expect it to shift back to Utah.
