Prelim Pick of the Week: UFC Oklahoma City

UFC Heavyweight Fight: Alvin Hines vs RJ Harris

Start Time: Saturday (7/18) 5:00pm EST (Paramount+)

The prelims is where we find a pair of lesser known heavyweights, which is one of the best places to find value. RJ Harris is making his UFC debut on short notice after Allen Frye Jr. dropped out of Saturday’s card. He’ll be facing Alvin Hines, who made his debut in June of 2025, but we haven’t seen since.

The grappling matchup is an interesting one here. On one hand, Hines has all the wrestling chops he needs to get this to the ground. His regional record is chocked full of grappling heavy performances. However, he will have to protect his neck on the way in as Harris is very quick with the chokes. Standing 6’6″, he loves grabbing guillotines and ninja chokes against his much shorter opponents.

The striking is also fascinating. On paper, it should be all Harris. He has the reach and has shown plenty of power with his hooks. However, he is also very stationary and heavy on his feet. As a result, the much more athletic Hines may be able to pick him apart with his speed. Additionally, we did get to see Hines in there with Glory kickboxer Jhonata Diniz last year and his chin held up just fine.

Between the wrestling and speed, the advantage should be in Hines’ favor. As long as he avoids the chokes, he should cruise to his first UFC victory.

UFC Oklahoma City Prelim Pick: Alvin Hines ML (-140)
