The UFC is wasting no time getting their pay-per-view of the month out to their fans, as this weekend already brings us UFC 313 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Our co-main event fell apart, but we’ve got a replacement for it, and the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship is still on the line in the main event. For my MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: UFC 313, we’re hitting up a surprising underdog competiting in the co-main event.

MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: UFC 313
UFC 313: Pereira vs Ankalaev
Start Time: 6:30 PM EST (ESPN+)
Our lightweight co-main event on Saturday is a rematch from two years ago, when Justin Gaethje won a majority decision over Rafael Fiziev. Fiziev has yet to win a fight since then and has been on the shelf with a knee injury since September 2023. And he’s stepping in here on short notice.
Yet, Gaethje finds himself an underdog heading into UFC 313 for some reason. Yes, he got knocked out in his last fight, but that was a war against Max Holloway. And Gaethje has a size and striking advantage over Fiziev. The short notice, the long layoff, the fact he lost already to Gaethje – all signs point to ‘The Highlight’ being a worthy live dog for Saturday.
