Super Bowl 58 Anthem Bets and Picks: How Long Will Reba Sing?

Parties for the big game are a lot of fun, and they bring a great mix of fans. Not every fan has the same knowledge of the game. Some partiers won’t have any interest. As a great host, you will always look for ways to bring the group together.

The line has moved quite a bit. It started at 84.5 seconds and has gone up to as much as 90.5 seconds. Right now, it is set at 86.5 seconds. Since 2000, the average length of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl is 115.4 seconds.

At the 1999 Cowboys game, Reba McEntire finished the Anthem in 90 seconds. She also sang the National Anthem at the World Series in 1997, finishing in 83 seconds.

Super Bowl National Anthem Trends

Female Performers

The National Anthem has only finished in less than 90 seconds by a female performer three times since 1980. Jewel finished at 1:27 in 1998. This was the last time. The other two were Helen O’Connell (1981) and Cheryl Ladd (1980). We have had both under the 86.5 seconds set for McEntire. In fact, more female singers go over 2:00 than that (11).

Male Performers

When the National Anthem is sung by male singers, it also rarely goes under the 90-second mark. The last time was Billy Joel at 1:30 flat in 2007.

Prior to that, it was Aaron Neville (1990) and Billy Joel again (1989) both going under. Neil Diamond holds the record for the shortest performance. He finished up in just 62 seconds in 1987. Only three of those four performances were under the 86.5 mark set for Reba.

Over

We have only been able to bet on the National Anthem for 17 years. During that time, the over hit nine times. Four of the last five performances have gone over. The line for the National Anthem performance at the Super Bowl was hit exactly only once.

Under

The National Anthem has only been available as a prop bet for 17 Super Bowls. In that time the performers have hit the under seven times. The performer hit the betting line on the head one time and over nine times. Recently, the under has only hit one time in the last five Super Bowls.

What are the Rules?

The clock starts when the performer starts to sing the National Anthem and ends when they stop singing. This was quite the controversy when Christina Aguilera accidentally skipped an entire verse. To make it worse, she added a “Whoo!” This was tough, and some sportsbooks handled it differently. Nothing like that has happened since.

What are the Odds:

National Anthem – Reba McEntire:
Over 86.5 Seconds -200
Under 86.5 Seconds +150

Bonus*
American the Beautiful – Post Malone
Over 109.5 Seconds
Under 109.5 Seconds

My Pick: National Anthem Over 86.5 Seconds -200

We know she can do it in less, but history says she is going to go over. Vegas has already moved the line once. We could see it get back to 90.5 before the game. Reba is on video singing the National Anthem twice, and once was over and once was under the line.

Performers have shown a tendency to soak in the limelight during the Super Bowl. No Female artist has performed the National Anthem for less than 87 seconds since 1990. Only one male has finished that quickly. She is going to go Over 86.5 seconds, book it!
