Championship Sunday: Picks for Every Match and DFS Core Plays

The biggest day of the entire soccer year is upon us: Championship Sunday in the Premier League!

Ten games all kicking off at 10am EST with a whole lot on the line for all 20 teams in the EPL, especially for those teams at the top of the table. This is a particularly exciting year because for the first time since 2014, the title will be decided on the last day of the season.

Coincidentally, Manchester City and Liverpool were also the two teams fighting for the title five years ago. The other teams joining Manchester City and Liverpool in the top four (the teams who qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League) have also yet to be decided.

With so many games and so much on the line, you better believe that there will be a lot of opportunities to make money. This Sunday is also Mother’s Day here in the US, so be sure to spend all your winnings on something nice for your mom or just buy her a gift before you make any bets.

Now, please scroll down to see my picks and betting tips for all 10 games and my core players to have in your DFS lineups. All lines provided by mybookie.ag and are subject to change.

Tottenham vs. Everton

My pick: Tottenham (-1/2 goal)

Tottenham has much more on the line than Everton. If they win or draw they will secure a spot in the top four and next season’s Champions League.

Everton have had a great season at home but have really struggled on the road. They won only 2 of their last six road matches and both of those wins were against teams in the bottom half of the table.

Tottenham have been great in their new stadium. They are 3-1 there in the Premier League since it opened in early April. And hot off a massive comeback in the Champions League on Wednesday, I think that will be 4-1 after Sunday.

Manchester United vs. Cardiff City

My pick: Manchester United (-2 goals)

Man United have been in a massive slump of late. The team really surged when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over as manager, but they have cooled off big time in recent games. United have won only two of their last 11 games!

Last week they bottomed out with a draw against woeful Huddersfield. I still think they will win this game. The players will want to give it their all in the last game of the season and give themselves some hope going into next season. Cardiff have nothing to play for as they have already been relegated.

Watford vs. West Ham United

My pick: West Ham (+1/2 goal)

Watford and West Ham face-off in what is one of the least anticipated matchups of the entire weekend. Both teams are exactly in the middle of the Premier League table and have absolutely nothing to play for.

Betting on this one is a sign of a true degenerate, but we are going to do it anyway! I will not be watching one minute of this game, but I am picking West Ham based on the fact that they have won their last two matches and Watford have lost their last two matches.

Southampton vs. Huddersfield Town

My pick: Southampton (-1.5 goals)

Huddersfield Town have had a dreadful season and were practically relegated in January. They only managed 15 points and 21 goals all season. Last week they did squeak out a draw against Man United and I think that was their last hoorah of the season.

Southampton were able to pull their act together and comfortably avoid relegation. They should win this one easily at home.

Leicester City vs. Chelsea

My pick: Leicester City (pick ’em)

I like Leicester City here. Chelsea have already locked up a spot in the top four and do not have anything to play for in reality.

Leicester City took Manchester City down to the wire last week and almost ruined their title hopes at the Etihad Stadium. They would have ruined those hopes too had it not been for an all-time great goal by Vincent Kompany. Leicester have a lot of young players who still want to prove themselves against the big boys and I think they will show up against Chelsea.

Fulham vs. Newcastle

My pick: Newcastle (pick ’em)

Newcastle all the way here.

Fulham have already been relegated and will want to play well for the home fans, but Newcastle are a far more talented team. They came incredibly close to ruining Liverpool’s title hopes last weekend and almost pulled out a result. They have been a strong team at the end of this season and I think they will finish it off with a win.

Liverpool vs. Wolves

My pick: Liverpool (-1.5 goals)

Liverpool dispatched FC Barcelona at home 4-0 in midweek to advance to the Champions League final.

Wolves have one of the best records against the top six this season, but I do not think it will be enough to beat a determined Liverpool at home. I expect Liverpool to win and put the pressure on Manchester City to win the title with a win of their own.

Crystal Palace vs. Bournemouth

My pick: Crystal Palace (-1/2 goal)

Neither team has much to play for here, but Crystal Palace have quietly finished off the season in pretty good form. They have only lost one of their last five games.

Bournemouth have been a bit more unpredictable. They have beaten a Tottenham team in the Champions League Final and lost to a Fulham team that has already been relegated.

You never know which Bournemouth team is going to show up, which is why I think the safe money is on a Palace team playing at home.

Brighton vs. Manchester City

My pick: Brighton (+2.5 goals)

It’s simple, Manchester City need to beat Brighton to win the Premier League. City was in almost this exact situation at the end of the 2012 season and that created probably one of the most dramatic days in the history of the Premier League. City won the league on a goal from Sergio Aguero in the last minute of extra time.

I expect this to be a close affair too, but I think City have too much talent and determination to let this opportunity go to waste. City will win the game and Premier League with it.

HOWEVER, I think it will be within two goals so I am taking Brighton at home plus the points.

Burnley vs. Arsenal

My pick: Burnley (+1/2 goal)

After what seemed like a promising start to the Unai Emery era, Arsenal have fallen off of late. It would take a miracle for them to pass Tottenham and finish fourth in the Premier League. They have won one of their last five matches in the EPL and have shifted most of their focus to winning the UEFA League.

I am taking Burnley at home plus the points.

Daily Fantasy Preview

Here are my picks for core players to build your DFS lineup around on Championship Sunday.

Forward

Marcus Rashford MUN
Cardiff have conceded the third most goals in the Premier League this season and the Man United forwards have a lot to prove. I think Rashford will close the season strong and get a goal at home against Cardiff.

Midfield

James Ward-Prowse SOU
Midfielders who take all the free kicks and set pieces for their teams have dominated against Huddersfield Town all season. Ward-Prowse is that guy, he is good value, and he is a must start if he plays on Sunday.

Defense

Aaron Wan-Bissaka CRY
Wan-Bissaka has had an amazing breakout season for Crystal Palace. He has also put up massive numbers in Daily Fantasy. He might not be at Palace for long. There are many top clubs scouting him, so he will want to have a great performance to close out the season strong at home against Bournemouth.

Goalkeeper

Tom Heaton BUR
Arsenal have a lot of ground to make up as far as goal differential goes if they want to make the top four. Because of that I expect Tom Heaton to face a lot of shots giving him plenty of opportunities to rack up points at home for Burnley.
