MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 11

St. Louis Cardinals vs. New York Mets

First Pitch – 1:10 pm EST
Citi Field – Queens, NY
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Cardinals are first to the plate in this one and their offense hasn’t been anything to write home about this season. They are a middle of the pack team in terms of run scoring, but have really struggled in the early parts of the game. They rank in the bottom third of the league in first inning scoring. They’ll have a tall task in front of them with Christian Scott on the bump. He carries a 2.50 ERA into action on Thursday with 41 strikeouts in just 36.0 innings. He’s allowed just one run over his last three starts, so he should be able to get us three quick outs.

In the bottom of the first, we’ll continue to fade the offense of the Mets. They scored just 3.00 runs a game over their last three going into Wednesday. That trend dropped them into 25th in the majors with 4.02 runs per game. They’ll have an uphill climb as well when they face Hunter Dobbins. He has only thrown 13.0 innings this year, but enters with a 2.77 ERA and 14 strikeouts. He’s coming off of 5.0 scoreless against the Reds, and they’re a much better hitting team than the Mets.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 11: No (TBD)

Seattle Mariners vs. Baltimore Orioles

First Pitch – 7:00 pm EST
Camden Yards – Baltimore, MD
Broadcast – ESPN

Seattle is another offense that has just been much worse than pre-season expectations would dictate. Despite a slight uptick in production lately, they’re still ranking in the bottom third of the league in run scoring. Kyle Bradish should be able to help lower those numbers as well. While his season numbers look a touch scary, his recent work has been outstanding. He posted a 2.80 ERA in the month of May and has held opponents to two or less runs in four of his last five games.

Bradish’s counterpart for this one is Bryan Woo. Woo has been up and down a bit this year, but has held three of his last six opponents scoreless. His ERA in that span is all the way down to 2.75, which brings me a lot more confidence than his full season numbers. I find some additional confidence in the struggles that Baltimore’s lineup has had early in games. They rank 22nd in first inning scoring and should be no issue for Woo here.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 11: No (TBD)
