Mississippi State vs LSU Prediction & Picks: College Football Week 7

Colby Dant’s whole argument fit in one sentence: LSU hasn’t beaten a good team yet. Mississippi State visits LSU on Saturday, October 17 at 9:00 AM PT / 12:00 PM ET in Baton Rouge, LA, and LSU was laying 14.5 with a total of 58.5 when the guys taped on October 13. Two of the three took the points. Ryan laid it. The full argument is on the College Football Picks Week 7 episode.

Mississippi State vs LSU Odds

LSU was a 14.5-point favorite over Mississippi State, with a total of 58.5, when the guys taped on October 13.

Our Picks

Sean opened with the situational read. Mississippi State comes in off a bye with extra time to prepare, and LSU is back home after an overtime loss, which on its own pointed him to the Bulldogs and the points. Then he argued against himself. He noted LSU’s defense ranks seventh in havoc, one of the bigger gaps of the week, and the guys remembered how the Alabama game went for Mississippi State once the pressure arrived. Quarterback Kamario Taylor’s status was unclear when they taped, and Sean didn’t love the idea of a banged-up starter or a backup walking into that.

Colby didn’t budge. He thinks the gap between a very good roster and a decently good one is thinner than people want to believe, money or not, and he isn’t sold on Lane Kiffin, who he said had the benefit of soft schedules at Ole Miss. He also isn’t a fan of the LSU quarterback, mostly over how he left Kenny Dillingham after a playoff run. When the Clemson and Texas A&M wins came up, Colby said Clemson looks bad now and A&M is a mess, so neither counts for much.

The coaching ties cut both ways. Sean pointed out that Kiffin hired Mississippi State’s defensive coordinator, Zach Arnett, at Ole Miss. Colby added that Mississippi State’s head coach worked with Kiffin there too, and took that as a reason to grab the points, since both sides know what the other likes to do. Sean settled on Hail State because fading Kiffin is fun. Ryan laid the number with LSU and got the last word: it’s also fun to back Kiffin, because he knows the spread.
