Football Pick of the Day (September 7th): NCAA Moneyline Pick
SMU Mustangs vs Florida St. Seminoles
7:30pm – Monday – September 7th
After taking out Alabama to open the season last year, Florida State fell on hard times. A 5-7 finish couldn’t be further from expectations following a win over a top 10 team, but that’s precisely what they got. Despite the disappointment, Mike Norvell is back for another season, but strating quarterback Thomas Castellanos is not. They brought in former Stanford and Auburn QB Ashton Daniels to try to spark their offense.
While Daniels may not have been the reason, their offense did seem to find its footing in their first game. A lot of that can be attributed to a weak opponent and Ousmane Kromah’s 8.2 yards per carry. Perhaps that’s also a pretty clear indicator that their focus on the offensive line in the portal did the trick.
After steamrolling New Mexico State, they’ll get a step up with #19 ranked Southern Methodist. That revamped offensive line of FSU will immediately get tested with an SMU defensive line that took a similar path. Their entire front four is new to University Park.
With this game likely to be won in the trenches, we’ll go with the proven commodity. The Florida State offensive line opened things up big and looked like a cohesive unit already. This will be a tougher task, but we’ll back the home dogs.
