Tennessee Tech at USC-Upstate

Start Time: 7:00 PM EST

Tennessee Tech comes into this game at 2-3, but both wins are against schools from lower divisions. When the Golden Eagles play anyone in D1, they get wrecked. Tennessee Tech had road losses at Charlotte and Western Kentucky, and a home loss to West Georgia.

USC-Upstate is 3-2 coming into this one. They have road losses at Cal Baptist and UNC-Wilmington, but managed a road win at Fresno State. Their only home wins have also come against teams from lower divisions. This game is the Spartans’ first home game against a DI opponent.

Tennessee Tech has made an early habit of getting drilled on the road. The Spartans are also one of the worst offensive teams in the nation. They struggle to score under the best circumstances, and now they’re on the road.

USC-Upstate will likely compete for the bottom of the Big South, but they’ve managed a road win against a solid mid-major program already. They should have no problem covering a short number against a bottom-40 team in the nation. Lock up the Spartans to win and cover the number at home.

Best Bet: USC-Upstate -2.5

UMass-Lowell at Bradley

Start Time: 8:00 PM EST

Bradley comes into this game having lost their last two. They dropped one on the road to San Francisco, but lost at home to UT-Martin. UMass-Lowell has played three road games and has lost all three. They also lost a home game against New Haven, but won their season opener against Rivier College.

Bradley is a proud program. They didn’t expect to drop a home game early in their non-conference schedule. This is their first game back at home since the loss, and they get a UMass-Lowell team that looks absolutely awful. The River Hawks have neither won nor covered in any game they’ve played with a spread this year. Bradley is expected to contend in the Missouri Valley Conference. Look for Bradley to put their foot on the gas against a team that has been a punching bag for the first two weeks of the season. Lock up the Bradley Braves to cover the big number against UMass-Lowell.

Best Bet: Bradley -19.5

Arkansas State at St. Mary’s

Start Time: 10:00 PM EST

St. Mary’s has played four games this year. All four were at home, and all four had double-digit spreads. They covered all of them by at least 12 points. They don’t just beat teams at home. The Gaels destroy teams at home.

Arkansas State is coming into this one with a 3-1 record. The Red Wolves have won two games on the road already this season. Arkansas State is by no means a ‘bad’ team; they’re just about to run into a buzzsaw. St. Mary’s is one of the best defensive teams in the country. The Gaels also play at a deliberate pace and grind on teams until they end up under an avalanche of points. Arkansas State may hang early, but St. Mary’s has shown an ability to pull away from teams late, and the Gaels are just at another level when they’re playing in their own gym.

Look for University Credit Union Pavilion to continue to be a house of horrors for any non-conference team that enters. Lock up the Gaels to cover the big number. Let’s stay with the hot hand until it burns us.

Best Bet: St. Mary’s -19.5
