NBA First Scorer Props – November 7
Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Chicago Bulls
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
United Center – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – NBA TV
The Bulls have been a rough team on both the tip and on the first buckets. Nine games into the season, they have won just one tip and one first bucket. Those numbers don’t really bode well against any team, and the Timberwolves have been hovering right around league average. They have a 42.9% tip rate on the year and a 57.1% rate on the first bucket. That better than league average success rate gives me all I need to know about his game – we have to go with someone from Minnesota in this one.
If we’re looking to the stat lines, there are a couple ways to go with the Timberwolves. Anthony Edwards leads the team in show attempts. Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle are the guys in front in field goal percentage. However, there is another starter who is getting all the early looks. Jaden McDaniels has taken the first shot in three consecutive games for them. That’s a trend we can’t overlook going into this one – so let’s take him for our first scorer of the night.
First Scorer Bet for November 7: Jaden McDaniels (+850)
Utah Jazz vs. Milwaukee Bucks
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
Fiserv Forum – Milwaukee, WI
Broadcast – NBA TV
Maybe these two teams are not winning a lot of games, but they are winning a lot of the early game action. In fact, Robin Lopez has lost just one tip all year, as has Walker Kessler. Both teams are also getting the first bucket at nearly the same rate, which does make this one a bit tricky to call. However, when it doubt, check out their past tipoffs. In the last head-to-head tip between Kessler and Lopez, Lopez took it easily and got his team an early first score on that first possession. We’ll ride with the Bucks as a result.
The thing about the Bucks that has been true for all of their recent seasons is that they like to let the ball fly early in the game. Most of their early attempts are three-pointers and they don’t usually discriminate against who gets to take them. This is even more true with Giannis Antetokounmpo banged up. One name that I’ve been seeing in a lot of the early action is Gary Trent Jr. He is third on the team in three-point attempts – only behind Damian Lillard and Brook Lopez. I like him to get one of those early looks and to hopefully sink it.
First Scorer Bet for November 7: Gary Trent Jr. (+1000)
