NBA First FG Props – December 28

Utah Jazz vs. New Orleans Pelicans

Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
Smoothie King Center – New Orleans, Louisiana
Broadcast – NBA League Pass

The Jazz are in the bottom five in the league when it comes to winning the tip. They’ve had a slew of different guys on the jump and it just never seems to matter. While that’s bad, their ability to grab the first bucket is even worse. They’re snagging it at right around 29.0%, which is good enough for dead last. The Pelicans are putting up league average numbers, or close to it, in both of those – so this is really more of a fade on Utah.

The Pelicans have 13 first field goals on the year. Six of those belong to Brandon Ingram inclusing four of the last five successes. It may seem like the square play here, but Ingram is the hot hand and the number will be good enough to play.

First FG Bet for December 28: Brandon Ingram (+400)

San Antonio Spurs vs. Portland Trailblazers

Tipoff – 10:00 pm EST
Moda Center – Portland, Oregon
Broadcast – NBA League Pass

Both of these two teams are just above the middle of the pack when it comes to tips. They have identical 55.2% tip averages on the year and both lean on their go-to big guy – each of which is tipping slightly above the team averages. However, the big difference in the ability to make that first chance count. The Spurs are about 7% higher than their tip average when it comes to first field goals. The Blazers are nearly 10% under their number. As a result, we’ll lean to the Spurs to get it done.

The Spurs have had some odds results when it comes to first buckets. Three of their last five successes came from Malaki Branham, who didn’t score any points at all in their last game. However, the name that keeps getting open early in the games is easy to find – it’s Julian Champagnie. He took their first three shots last game and the first one in the game before that. He’s getting lots of three-point attempts and that seems to be what they’re digging for early.

First FG Bet for December 28: Julian Champagnie (+1000)
