NBA First FG Props – December 8

Detroit Pistons vs. Orlando Magic

Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
Amway Center – Orlando, Florida
Broadcast – NBA League Pass

Until Wendell Carter Jr. comes back, I will be fading the Magic on all first bucket efforts. Goga Bitadze has won just one of the sixteen tips that he’s taken this year. His starts have left the Magic in dead last on the tips and in the bottom five of the first buckets. The Pistons are comfortably middle of the pack – which should be more than enough here.

Bojan Bogdanovic got into the starting lineup for the first time this year in their last game. He scored first for them – although it wasn’t the game’s first score. He also led the team in scoring. Even with all those stats pointed at him, there’s a big number on the board. Let’s grab it while it’s there.

First FG Bet for December 8: Bojan Bogdanovic (+700)

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Memphis Grizzlies

Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
FedExForum – Memphis, Tennessee
Broadcast – NBA League Pass

The Grizzlies have exactly the same percentage on their tips as they do their first buckets – 65%. Ditto for the Timberwolves, only the number is just 45%. If that’s not enough to get you in the Grizzlies camp for Friday, note that the trend isn’t positive for the Timberwolves tip man. Rudy Gobert has lost three of his last four tips, whereas, Jaren Jackson Jr. has won three of his last four.

I really want to look for a contrarian pick here, but the data is just too strong for Jaren Jackson Jr. The big man has 46.1% of all the Grizzlies first buckets. That includes having six of the team’s last eight first field goals.

First FG Bet for December 8: Jaren Jackson Jr. (+500)

Dallas Mavericks vs. Portland Trailblazers

Tipoff – 10:00 pm EST
Moda Center – Portland, Oregon
Broadcast – NBA League Pass

The stats heavily favor the Blazers on the jump here, with a 60% to 30% edge. However, what those statistics don’t say is that Deandre Ayton is likely out again tomorrow, which leave Duop Reath taking the jump. He lost his first and only jump and I like the chance for Dereck Lively to beat him. Plus, even with the worse jump rate, the Mavericks are grabbing the first bucket 10% of the time more than the Blazers.

Just three games ago, Kyrie was on a three-game streak of hitting first buckets. He hasn’t had one in a minute, but he started getting an early look again on Wednesday. Let’s get him back on track before the weekend.

First FG Bet for December 8: Kyrie Irving (+600)
