College Football Pick Of The Day (October 28th): NCAA Week 9 Spread Pick
For today’s college football pick of the day for Week 9, I’m looking at the SMU at Syracuse game. Number 19 Syracuse is 6-1 and 4-1 in the ACC as they head to take on Syracuse (3-4, 1-4 ACC) at the JMA Wireless Dome. The Mustangs are a 9.5-point favorite.
SMU has been the more complete and explosive team all season. They are averaging 36.4 points per game and close to 470 yards per game. They’re holding opponents to just 21.1 points per game. Quarterback Kevin Jennings continues to pile up big numbers and recently set the high for career touchdowns at SMU. Running back Kendrick Raphael is also reliable on the ground, and this offense can score in a hurry. Last week, they beat Cal 59-20.
Syracuse has had ups and downs all year. One of the ups came last week when they won 31-30 in overtime on the road against North Carolina. They can move the ball, but their defense has left a lot to be desired. Home dogs in the Dome can be scrappy, yet the talent gap is just too big.
SMU is 3-2 against the spread and has the firepower to pull away in this one. The number has gone up to 10 on some books, but you can still find it at 9.5 as well. Expect the ranked Mustangs to control the line of scrimmage, exploit mismatches in the passing game, and cover with room to spare in this Halloween matchup.
The Pick: SMU -9.5
